UT Maps in the making....

Postby JJJ13 » Fri Mar 06, 2009 4:27 pm

Well I've decided to make some UT maps...I am starting with a set I call "South Side Row" it will be 2 exterior maps, and 3 interior maps at least. They are all modeled in 3d using Revit. I will be assigning materials/rendering them in 3dsMax...before bringing it into the Editor for lighting and stuff...I am planning for them all to be for both 2004 and UT3, first for 2004.

I am also working on 2 more sets of 5 or so maps, 1 set of a high-rise elementary school (Green, Sustainable, WAY too much detail so far), the other is a pool enclosure of an existing Chicago Park on the south side (huge full city block, of pool, basketball court, locker rooms, etc. As well as 2 more maps of a recreation of the Farnsworth House in Plano, IL...My favorite home of all time...google it. These are in the same progress as the row homes, but I'm starting with these...

These are the in progress shots of the "South Side Row" set, quick cpl minute renderings of only the structure and furniture, I still have stuff to add, switch out, and change completely, but adding textures is soon to come...

Each Unit is 3 Levels of 3 Bedrooms - 2.5 Bathrooms, 1550 SF total with 5 private exterior spaces, 2 on each level (one for morning light, the other for afternoon) and 1 party roof deck overlooking the backyard . Building cost under $125,000 for each unit (minus modern furniture of course) and is designed to be built off site, within a factory and shipped on two separate semi-trucks.

What do you guys think, do you see any game potential?? Suggestions needed and appreciated.

I dunno about game potential but if you ever left architecture you have potential as a real estate salesman.

I hope not, but I am almost 100% positive, with a map built like that you are going to either have to add a hell of alot of blocking zones or your frame rates will be so high the map will be unplayable, I have run into alot of FPS problems just using certain static meshes, and this map is all static mesh, hope it plays ok, just wanted to give you a heads up to be prepared for......LOL

Yeah I have no idea, what the editor will do to this file...I was planning on only importing each floor as a map, with stairs visible, but at some point not allowing to go through. The only map I was planning on using the whole file for was the exterior, but I would get rid of all the interior walls and furniture within each building. Does this help me with what you were describing at all X?

Yes that will help. it is touchy, it might play fine, it might be a fps hog, you really wont know until you load it up in the editor and run around in it.....good luck

This will be the first map, I haven't brought it into 3dsMax yet...I got all excited and started playing around with the new mental-ray that Revit 2009 now has. The material library and editing doesn't match Max, and its a whole lot longer for it to render. The good news, It is very easy to set up and render at high quality, it only takes anywhere from 8-15 hours...LOL. I'm thinking of testing to see what the Revit file will do untouched in the UT editors.

It looks good. I get dibs on one of the upper window sills, so make sure you give me a good hole to crawl into with a view of the whole room. :???:

I'm all about adding some hiding spots. I'm having an issue, I know its best if I have a bunch of objects to hide behind and what not...I just don't want it messing up my clean lines, the person who lives in one of these is not allowed to have any personal belongings...SAYS ME

JJ, If the FPS does not hurt you and it plays fine, I will say this is the most real like map I have ever seen, Since the whole thing is a mesh, i would not bother with holes and tunnels, but maybe alot of selves, plants and transporters..............looking damm nice, shit Im ready to pack and move in that bitch like now.......LOL
